Built on land that was once the estate of Hawaii's last and most beloved princess, the Sheraton Princess Kaiulani is a garden oasis in the heart of Waikiki. When they wanted to rebrand their pool bar, they came to me to create a fresh look. One that was inspired by the Polynesian Tiki roots that have plenty of history in Waikiki.
It's no secret around here that I love to surf and am inspired by the surf culture. So when Birdwell Beach Britches reached out to get some illustrations done for their size chart, I jumped at the chance. I got to design these guys in different sizes to help prospective customers looking for trunks visualize what size shorts they should purchase.
Drew these kooks for Jamba Juice Hawaii's holiday gift cards. For the smoothie/acai bowl fiends, I mean friends, in your life. It was a blast to create these fun illustrations to celebrate the holiday season with a tropical and also uniquely Hawaiian way. Complete with a party wave and tiny mango shakes.
The Grand Wailea certainly lives up to it's name. Whether you've booked a stay and explored one of the nine, sparkling pools or just driven by the sprawling estate on your way to Big Beach, it's safe to say that it's become a staple since it opened on Maui. So I was so excited to memorialize the last 25 years for them with a series of three vintage-inspired travel posters.
Kahala Mall reached out to me to create three vintage-inspired illustrations for their summer tote promotion. Any visitor to the mall who spent $350 and redeemed their receipts, received one of these limited-edition custom-designed bags.
I created this print for Acme Furniture and Pig & Rooster's collab. in Japan featuring interior design that compared Honolulu lifestyle to the Tokyo aesthetic.
In 2015, Walden Surfboards celebrated fifty years in the business of making performance surfboards. For the occasion, they asked me to create a design package that included a logo laminate that was placed on boards to commemorate the occasion, as well as, digital assets like one at the bottom of this page.
Greenroom Festival is a one-of-a-kind festival that takes place in Hawaii and Japan each year. For starters, it's a festival that is put on by a gallery, and not just any gallery - one that exclusively supports surf art. So I was pumped to be asked to create the promotional artwork for the 2015 Greenroom Festival Hawaii
Mid-Pacific Institute is a private school in the heart of O'ahu that is focused on bringing innovators, artists, and individuals through a technology-enabled immersive classroom environment to prepare them for the world around them. They were getting ready to introduce new classroom equipment to help kids learn, so I illustrated this cover for their monthly magazine.
Some people are just born with the natural ability to absolutely crush dad jokes. And here at Nick Kuchar Art & Design Co. we embrace those with this special talent. So I harnessed the beauty of the Pacific Northwest and the feeling of road tripping with pops in the Volkswagen and created this Father's Day card for sale at Papyrus.
In the process of revitalizing their "Pataloha" brand, Patagonia contacted me to create some new shirt art. Pataloha, is a division of Patagonia that was started by Rell Sun in 2002. This was the beginning of an effort to revive it and bring Hawaiian aloha spirit and design to the popular and eco-responsible Patagonia brand.
